1. Export from your phone
Android: Settings → Location → Location services → Timeline → Export Timeline data. iPhone: Google Maps → your profile picture → Settings → Location & Privacy → Export Timeline data. You get a file called Timeline.json.
Google Maps no longer shows your Timeline on a computer. This free Google Timeline viewer opens the Timeline.json exported from your phone and shows your visits and routes day by day, in any desktop or mobile browser — the file is read on your device and never uploaded.
Works with the Timeline export from Android (Timeline.json) or iPhone (Timeline.json or location-history.json), Takeout's Timeline Edits.json and raw-signal exports. How do I export it?
Scroll to zoom · drag to pan · click a dot for the visit
Every place you stopped, as a dot on the map and a row in the list with arrival, departure and how long you stayed. Home and work are marked when Google labelled them.
The paths Google recorded between visits, drawn on the map with the transport type, distance and duration of each leg. Click a leg to see it on its own.
A month grid where darker days carry more records. Click a day, drag across a trip, or take a whole month — the viewer follows.
Days with data, visits, distance, how you moved and your most visited spots, for whatever days you selected.
Android: Settings → Location → Location services → Timeline → Export Timeline data. iPhone: Google Maps → your profile picture → Settings → Location & Privacy → Export Timeline data. You get a file called Timeline.json.
Send the file to your computer (AirDrop, Drive, email to yourself) or open this page on the phone itself. Click "Open Timeline.json" — the Google Maps Timeline viewer parses the file in your browser.
Pick a month, click a day: your visits appear as dots, routes as lines, and the list shows arrival and departure times. Drag across days for a trip; "All days" gives the big picture.
Since 2024 Google keeps Timeline data on your phone instead of in your account. That is better for privacy, but Google's own help page says Timeline is not available for Maps on your computer — the desktop view is gone.
The export file still contains everything: where you stopped, how you moved, and the recorded paths. This Google Maps Timeline viewer puts that back on a map, without giving the data to anyone. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and the map background is the only network request — so it also works as a Timeline viewer on a computer, where the Google Maps app cannot run.
