Your Timeline file stays on your device

The file is opened and parsed by your browser. It is never uploaded, stored, or sent to us or anyone else. Closing the tab discards it.

Map tiles come from our own map server (fallback: CARTO)

To draw the map, your browser requests vector map tiles for the areas your route passes through from this site's tile server (tiles.timelinevisualizer.net — OpenStreetMap data packaged by Protomaps, hosted on Cloudflare); if that server cannot be reached, it falls back to raster tiles from CARTO (basemaps.cartocdn.com). The server receives those tile coordinates and normal network information such as your IP address; we keep no per-request tile logs, and most tiles are served from Cloudflare's edge cache. This can reveal the areas shown in your video to the server, but never your file, your exact points, or your title. You must confirm this before the map loads.

The video is rendered locally

Frames are drawn and encoded by your browser (WebCodecs). The MP4 and the overview image exist only in your browser memory until you share or download them.

No account; only aggregate analytics (Google Analytics)

There is no sign-in. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic: pages visited, referrer, approximate location (country/region derived from IP), device and browser type. Google Analytics sets cookies and similar identifiers in your browser to tell visits apart; Google processes this data on our behalf under its own terms. It never receives your Timeline file, coordinates, selected dates, titles, or the generated video — those never leave your browser. You can block analytics with a content blocker or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Open source

The rendering engine is based on the MIT-licensed open-source project google-timeline-visualizer. This site is not affiliated with Google or the original author.

Pro purchase and license key

Pro is an optional one-time purchase. Payment is processed by our payment partner, the merchant of record — we never see your card details; the payment partner's own privacy policy applies to the checkout. After payment, the payment partner issues a license key. To unlock Pro, your browser sends that key, a random device identifier and the checkout reference to a small activation service we run on Cloudflare, which checks them with the payment partner. Nothing about your Timeline, your coordinates, titles, uploaded music or photos is ever sent — those stay on your device. The key is stored in your browser (localStorage) so Pro stays unlocked; clearing site data removes it and you can re-enter the key.

What we keep, and for how long

We keep no data about free use — there is nothing to keep. For a Pro purchase, our activation service stores the license key, the order ID, the email address you used at checkout and a random identifier for each activated browser. This is kept for as long as the license is valid so the key can be re-activated and refunds handled; the checkout reference used to hand the key to your browser expires after 30 days. The payment partner keeps the payment records it is legally required to keep under its own policy. Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for 14 months in aggregate form.

Your data rights

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it (which revokes the license key), to receive a copy, to restrict or object to its processing, or to withdraw a consent you gave — email support@timelinevisualizer.net from the address used at checkout, or include your order ID. We reply within 30 days. Since there is no account, there is nothing to close; clearing your browser's site data removes the key from your device. You can also complain to the data-protection authority in your country. Requests about the payment itself (receipts, card data) should go to the payment partner, which is the merchant of record.

Countries Visited Map

The map tool at /visited-countries/ works the same way: countries you mark, photos you pick and any Timeline file are processed in your browser only. It ships its own map (Natural Earth, public domain), so it makes no request to a map provider at all. The map is saved in the link you copy and in this browser's storage — nowhere else. If you press "Short link", the map state (countries, title, colours) is stored on our server under a short code so the link can redirect; that is the only case where anything from this tool is stored by us.

Feedback form

The optional feedback link opens a form hosted by Tally (tally.so) in a new tab; only what you type there — plus the page language and whether Pro is active — is sent to Tally, under its own privacy policy. Nothing from your Timeline is included.
