About Timeline Visualizer

Timeline Visualizer turns the location history your phone already keeps — a Google Maps Timeline export, or the GPS inside your travel photos — into things worth sharing: an animated route video, visited-country and state maps, and a photo map. Everything is rendered in your browser.

Why this exists

In August 2026, travel-route videos made with the open-source project google-timeline-visualizer took off in Korea and Japan. Lots of people wanted one without installing anything, so we built a version that runs in a browser tab — then kept going: guides for exporting your Timeline, maps of the countries and US states you've visited, and a photo map for the pictures you already have.

The rule every tool follows

Your Timeline file, your photos and your coordinates are processed on your device and never uploaded — not to us, not to anyone. The only network requests are map tiles (which you confirm first), aggregate analytics, and things you explicitly create like a short link. This is not a marketing line: open your browser's developer tools and watch the network tab. The details are in the privacy policy.

Standing on open source

The rendering engine is based on the MIT-licensed open-source project google-timeline-visualizer. This site is an independent web implementation — not affiliated with Google or the original author — and we donate to the author's work. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors, CARTO, Natural Earth and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Who runs it

The site is built and run by Jack Cooper, an independent developer. The fastest way to reach me is support@timelinevisualizer.net — I read everything, and several features exist because a user emailed. The site is owned and operated by Lunonia Inc.
